Ingredients

  • 2 lb. lean beef, cut into small pieces
  • 2 c. onions, diced
  • 2 c. potatoes, quartered
  • 2 c. carrots, cut in chunks
  • 2 c. celery, cut large
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 5 Tbsp. tapioca
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 3 c. V-8 juice

Method

  • Place all ingredients in order given in large roaster or Dutch oven with tight fitting lid.
  • Bake at 250° for 5 to 6 hours.
  • No browning is necessary.
  • When done, the gravy is thick and brown. Stew may also be cooked on top burner over low heat in a very heavy roaster.
  • Stir occasionally.
