Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar (white)
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • 8 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Brown
  • sugar
  • and
  • flour in heavy iron skillet over low heat until it browns, stirring all the time.
  • Add the milk and stir until
  • thick
  • and all melted.
  • Add butter and cool.
  • Beat the egg yolks
  • until
  • they are light and add while stirring. Add vanilla. When cool, stack between three cooked pie crusts like
  • cake filling.
  • Beat
  • egg
  • whites
  • until stiff. Add
  • 8 teaspoons sugar,
  • one at a time.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Put on top and brown.
  • The crusts have no sides, just roll out 9 inches round and bake.
