Ingredients

  • 2 c. applesauce
  • 1 c. seedless preserves (strawberry or blackberry) or jam
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 3 1/2 c. flour (plain)
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. allspice
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. buttermilk

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add all ingredients (except 1/2 cup flour, raisins and nuts).
  • Mix well.
  • Roll raisins and nuts in 1/2 cup flour and add to mixture.
  • Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325° (maybe longer).
  • Test with toothpick.
  • Bake in tube pan lined in bottom with greased wax paper.
