Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. seedless raisins
  • 3/4 c. walnuts or pecans, chopped
  • 1 (15 or 16 oz.) can applesauce

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Cream in mixing bowl the sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
  • Add applesauce.
  • In another bowl, sift flour, soda, salt and baking powder.
  • Combine flour mixture with creamed mixture and beat.
  • Add raisins.
  • Put in floured and greased tube pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.
  • Test with toothpick.
  • Cool in pan on wire rack. Wrap in aluminum foil.
  • Better a day or two after baked.
