Ingredients

  • 5 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Combine flour, soda and sugar; cut in shortening.
  • Add yeast mixture and buttermilk; mix with hands until dough is formed.
  • May be made into biscuits immediately or kept in refrigerator as long as two weeks (if air is worked out everyday), then make into biscuits as needed.
  • Bake fifteen minutes at 375°.
  • Makes 3 to 4 dozen biscuits.
