Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. salad oil or chicken fat
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3/4 c. cold water
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. egg whites
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar

Method

  • Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Mix oil, yolks, water and vanilla together.
  • Add to dry mixture; beat with spoon until smooth.
  • Put egg whites and cream of tartar in bowl. Beat until stiff.
  • Pour 2 mixtures together gradually folding gently until blended.
  • Bake in ungreased pan.
