Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 c. powdered dry milk
  • 2 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 10 c. all-purpose white flour

Method

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water with 1 tablespoon sugar; let stand 5 minutes.
  • Add egg, oil, salt, dry milk, 2 1/2 cups warm water and 1/4 cup sugar.
  • Stir in 2 cups flour; beat at medium speed of electric mixer until smooth.
  • By hand, gradually beat in additional flour, enough to make a soft dough, mixing well after each addition so that dough is well blended.
  • Turn out onto lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Cover loosely with a light towel; let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 1/2 hours.
