- 2 c. raisins
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Method
- Combine raisins and water; cover and simmer 5 minutes.
- Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid.
- Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and reserved liquid. Add vanilla and beat well.
- Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture.
- Stir in raisins and nuts. Drop from teaspoon about
- 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven at 375°
- about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Frost while warm if desired.
- Makes about 6 dozen.
