Ingredients
- 2 large Vidalia onions
- 1 c. sugar
- oil for deep frying
- 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 1 c. self-rising flour
- ice water
- 2/3 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 4 tsp. salt
Method
- Slice onions 1/8 inch thick.
- Sprinkle with sugar and add ice water to cover.
- Soak for 1 hour.
- Make batter of flour, salt, water, vegetable oil and beaten egg whites.
- Drain onion rings and dip into batter.
- Fry at 375° until brown.
