- 12 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 cups milk
- 2 beaten egg yolks or 1 beaten egg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 12 teaspoons vanilla
Method
- in heavy saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch.
- cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly; cook and stir 2 minutes more.
- remove from heat.
- gradually stir about 1 cup of hot mixture to egg yolks or egg.
- return all mixtures to saucepan.
- cook and stir about 2 minutes more.
- remove for heat.
- stir in butter and vanilla until butter melts.
- For chocolate pudding: increase sugar to 3/4 cup.
- add 6 tablespoons cocoa and 2 tablespoons butter with milk,.
- spoon into dishes.
