Ingredients

  • 12 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 beaten egg yolks or 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 12 teaspoons vanilla

Method

  • in heavy saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch.
  • cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly; cook and stir 2 minutes more.
  • remove from heat.
  • gradually stir about 1 cup of hot mixture to egg yolks or egg.
  • return all mixtures to saucepan.
  • cook and stir about 2 minutes more.
  • remove for heat.
  • stir in butter and vanilla until butter melts.
  • For chocolate pudding: increase sugar to 3/4 cup.
  • add 6 tablespoons cocoa and 2 tablespoons butter with milk,.
  • spoon into dishes.
