Ingredients

  • 17 to 18 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 lb. fresh yeast (approximately 4 yeast cakes)
  • 10 eggs
  • 1 c. Mazola oil or 1/2 lb. melted butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 c. water
  • rind of 1 lemon
  • raisins

Method

  • Put milk and water in saucepan and scald.
  • Set aside to cool to lukewarm.
  • Dissolve yeast cakes with approximately 1 tablespoon sugar and a little warm water.
  • When bubbly, put in large mixing bowl.
  • Add lukewarm milk and water.
  • Mix. Add flour (approximately 2 cups) until consistency of thin sour cream.
  • Mix well. Leave in warm place (covered) 1 to 4 hours until bubbly.
