Ingredients
- 2 c. peeled, cubed turnips
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. milk
- 3/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 3 Tbsp. melted margarine/butter
- 1/2 c. soft breadcrumbs
- paprika
Method
- Cook turnips in boiling salted water to cover just until tender.
- Drain and spoon into a greased 1-quart casserole dish. Combine butter and flour in a small saucepan; cook over low heat until bubbly.
- Gradually add milk; cook, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
- Add cheese, salt and pepper, stirring until cheese melts.
- Spoon sauce over cooked turnips.
- Combine melted butter with breadcrumbs, tossing well; sprinkle over casserole. Sprinkle with paprika.
