Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread
  • 4 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped celery (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup nonfat milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon dry mustard

Method

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Toast bread, butter both sides.
  • Cook & stir meat, onion, celery, prepared mustard & 1/2 tsp salt until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain and discard fluids
  • Alternate layers of toast, meat mixture & cheese in a 9"x9" greased baking pan.
  • Mix remaining ingredients: pour over layers in pan.
  • Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes.
  • Add paprika on top if desired.
