Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. strong coffee brewed or water
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
  • 2/3 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. vinegar

Method

  • In a large bowl, sift sugar and flour.
  • In heavy pan, combine butter, shortening, and coffee or water.
  • Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling.
  • Use a wooden spoon.
  • Pour in well greased pan, 17 1/2 x 11-inches.
  • Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
  • While brownies are baking, make the frosting.
