Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 3 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • green and red sugar sprinkles (optional)

Method

  • Cream butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating well.
  • Add eggs and milk; beat well.
  • Sift flour, baking powder and salt together in a small mixing bowl. Gradually add to creamed mixture, stirring well after each addition.
  • Shape dough into a ball.
  • Wrap in waxed paper and chill at least 30 minutes.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
  • Place about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
  • Flatten with palm of hand.
  • Sprinkle with sugar; bake at 325° for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
  • Yields 6 dozen.
