Ingredients

  • 12 cups chopped cabbage (about 2 medium cabbages)
  • 3 medium onions, coarsely chopped
  • 3 medium tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Onion rings (optional)

Method

  • Combine cabbage, onion, and tomato in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • Combine sugar, tomato juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper; mix well. Pour over cabbage mixture; toss. Cover and chill.
  • Garnish with onion rings before serving, if desired.
