Ingredients

  • 2 c. shelled walnuts
  • 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. (4 oz.) sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Combine the sugars and sour cream in a saucepan.
  • Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly. Continue cooking this mixture without stirring until it reaches 238° on a candy thermometer.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add vanilla and nuts.
  • Stir until nuts are thickly covered and the coating loses its gloss.
  • (Don't give up, this takes a while!)
  • Spoon nuts onto wax paper and separate nuts with forks.
  • Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
