Ingredients

  • 6 small peppers or 4 large peppers, cut in half
  • 1 can tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 1/3 c. uncooked rice
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Method

  • Mix meat, egg, onion, rice, 1/2 cup tomatoes, salt and pepper together.
  • Wash, stem and seed peppers.
  • Stuff peppers with meat and rice mixture.
  • Put peppers, rest of tomatoes and 1/4 cup water in large skillet with tight lid.
  • Cook slowly 45 minutes.
  • Remove peppers to platter.
  • Add sugar to tomatoes, turn up heat and cook until thick, stirring frequently.
  • Spoon sauce over peppers and serve.
