Ingredients

  • 1 generous lb. very lean ground beef (round or sirloin)
  • scant 1/3 c. uncooked rice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt (optional)
  • dash of ground black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 c. minced fresh parsley
  • 10 or more leaves cabbage (large green leaves best)
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 1/4 c. wine vinegar
  • 3/4 c. packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • water
  • caraway seed

Method

  • Combine ground beef with rice, egg, onion, carrot, salt, garlic salt, pepper, garlic and parsley; set aside.
