Ingredients

  • 1 baked 10-inch pie shell
  • 1 qt. strawberries (if small, leave whole; if large, cut in half)
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • salt
  • 4 rounded tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Mix water, sugar, cornstarch and salt thoroughly. Cook over low heat until thick, stirring constantly. When thick, add vanilla and red food coloring to make
  • a rich red.
  • Let mixture cool. Add strawberries. Place in pie shell and refrigerate for a couple of hours before serving. Decorate with whipped cream or Cool Whip.
