Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 2 lb. beef stew meat, cubed
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 (16 oz.) can mixed vegetables, drained
  • 1 tsp. thyme, dried
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 (12 oz.) can beef broth

Method

  • Melt margarine in skillet; brown beef. Add flour and mix well. Add onions, garlic, spices, sugar, water and broth.
  • Place casserole dish in 350° oven. Cook 1 1/2 hours until meat is tender, adding mixed vegetables 15 minutes before completion. Remove whole bay leaf and serve.
