Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Line cupcake tins with paper baking cups.
  • Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl.
  • Add shortening and milk.
  • Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer.
  • Scrape bowl and beaters.
  • Add eggs and vanilla.
  • Beat 2 minutes.
  • Pour batter into cups, filling each 1/2 full.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Cool. Dust with powdered sugar or frost with favorite frosting.
