Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 10 to 12 c. flour
  • 1 qt. sweet milk
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. warm water

Method

  • To sweet milk, add sugar and shortening.
  • Put in saucepan and bring to boiling point; let cool until lukewarm.
  • Add yeast which has been dissolved in the warm water.
  • Stir in 6 cups flour.
  • Let rise in a warm place 2 hours.
  • Then add 5 more cups flour, salt and baking powder, which have been sifted together.
  • Grease top of dough and cover carefully with waxed paper.
  • Place in refrigerator until needed.
  • Allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours for final rising after rolls are in the pan.
  • Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 20 minutes.
