Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 3/4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. strong cold coffee
  • 5 egg whites, beaten stiff
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
  • 1/4 tsp. black walnut flavoring

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
  • Sift flour and baking powder together.
  • Add alternately with coffee, beating well after each addition.
  • Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites to which the three flavorings have been added.
  • Turn into two 9-inch layer pans and bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
  • Frost with elegant caramel frosting.
