Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 egg whites

Method

  • Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  • Heat oven to 300°. Separate eggs while cold.
  • Warm yolks and whites to room temperature.
  • In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
  • Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Sift flour 3 times.
  • Mix baking soda into sour cream.
  • Add flour and sour cream to butter mixture alternately.
  • Add almond and vanilla extract.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff.
  • Fold into batter.
  • Pour into pan and bake for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours or until cake tester comes out clean.
