Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Beat eggs well and add to creamed mixture.
  • Add molasses.
  • Combine flour, salt, soda and spices.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Batter will be thick.
  • Add 1 cup hot water. Do not add extra flour.
  • Batter will be thin.
  • Pour into greased cake pan.
  • Bake at moderate heat for 45 minutes.
