Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 c. sour cream or buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg white, beaten stiff
Method
- Mix flour, soda and salt.
- Cream shortening and butter. Gradually add sugar and cream well.
- Add egg yolk and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.
- Add flour mixture, alternating with sour cream (or buttermilk), stirring until batter is smooth after each addition.
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
- Flatten with granulated sugar, if desired.
