Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 4 tablespoons hot water

Method

  • In a mixing bowl, cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Dissolve baking soda in water; add to creamed mixture.
  • Blend in molasses.
  • Sift together flour and ginger; gradually add to creamed mixture.
  • Blend in molasses.
  • Sift together flour and ginger; gradually add to creamed mixture (do not over beat).
  • Drop onto baking sheet 2" apart.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
