Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1/2 cups Chopped Onion (I Sometimes Add A Bit More)
  • 1- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Saltines, Crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoons Kitchen Bouquet (NO Substitutions! This Ingredient Makes All The Difference. Ask Your Grocer If Necessary.)

Method

  • Mix all the ingredients.
  • Ive become lazy and throw it all in the slow cooker from the start.
  • Try to mix it with your hands as best as you can.
  • Pack it all into a loaf, as firmly as possible.
  • This is going to get juicy.
  • The ingredients (like the Kitchen Bouquet) may not look completely distributed.
  • Do your best, but dont worry.
  • It will look and taste uniform in the end.
  • Cover and set the slow cooker on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 8 to 10 hours.
  • Personally, I like to cook this on high for a hour or two to get things cooking.
  • I then set it to low for the rest of the day.
  • Once on low, it is very difficult to overcook.
  • Dinner waits for you this time.
  • If you wish, you may want to remove some juices near the end to help in browning.
  • This juice is an excellent base for homemade gravy.
  • To remove from the slow cooker, I often cut it in half.
  • Then I put both halves on a platter and cut one half into slices.
  • We rarely touch the second half until the next day.
