Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 1/2 lb. hamburger meat
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 1/2 tsp. mixed herbs
  • seasoning to taste
  • 2 sticks celery, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions (shallots), chopped
  • 1 1/2 lb. potatoes, cooked and drained
  • 1 oz. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 egg

Method

  • Heat oil in a large pan and saut meat, onions and carrot over a high heat until golden brown.
  • Add crumbled stock cube, mixed herbs, seasoning, celery and green onions (shallots).
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Spoon into greased ovenproof casserole.
  • Mash potatoes with butter and milk and spoon onto meat.
  • Brush with lightly beaten egg and bake at 400° for 30 minutes.
  • Serves 4 to 6.
