Ingredients

  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • nuts (if desired)

Method

  • Combine sugar, cream of tartar, salt and hot water.
  • Stir only until sugar is dissolved.
  • Boil, without stirring, until syrup forms hard ball in cold water.
  • Pour slowly over slightly beaten egg whites, beating constantly, until stiff enough to hold a swirl.
  • Add vanilla and nuts.
  • Drop by spoonfuls onto lightly greased pan.
