Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. bacon fat
  • 4 c. shredded cabbage
  • 3 or 4 potatoes in 1/2 inch slices
  • fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 to 1 lb. kielbasa, sliced in serving chunks or Italian sausage

Method

  • Melt bacon fat in a large skillet.
  • Add cabbage.
  • Top with sliced potatoes.
  • Lay sausage on top; sprinkle with pepper.
  • Pour on boiling water.
  • Cover tightly and simmer over lowest heat for 50 to 60 minutes.
  • Add extra water if needed.
  • Serve with brown bread. Serves 4.
