Ingredients

  • 1 lb. sausage
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 tsp. each of cloves; cinnamon; nutmeg and allspice
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. flour

Method

  • Cover the cup of raisins with boiling water and let set. Cream sugar and sausage together.
  • Beat in eggs.
  • Sift together all dry ingredients.
  • Add sugar and sausage mixture alternately with dry ingredients to buttermilk.
  • Drain raisins and add raisins and nuts to mixture.
  • Pour into greased tube pan and bake 60 to 70 minutes at 350°.
  • Top with caramel frosting.
