Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. kielbasi
  • 2 lb. sauerkraut (less if desired)
  • 1/2 c. chopped bacon
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 c. red wine or white wine
  • 1 c. water
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • dash of salt and pepper

Method

  • Cut up bacon and fry.
  • Add chopped onion to bacon and brown. Rinse and drain sauerkraut.
  • Add to browned bacon and onion mix. Keep turning sauerkraut until brown.
  • Add wine, water, sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Slowly simmer over low heat for 3/4 hours.
  • Cut up kielbasi and add to sauerkraut mix.
  • Simmer 20 minutes.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes.
