Ingredients

  • 3 c. milk
  • 12 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 pkg. yeast (active dry)
  • 1/2 c. warm water (105~ to 110~)

Method

  • Proof yeast with water; set aside 5 minutes.
  • Scald milk with sugar and butter mixture.
  • Cool to lukewarm.
  • Place milk mixture in large mixing bowl, cool lukewarm.
  • Add 3 cups flour, salt and yeast mixture.
  • Blend until smooth paste.
  • Add eggs to make batter.
  • Add rest of flour to form dough.
  • Knead 8 to 10 minutes until smooth; sit in warm place, covered, at 80° to 90° until double in size.
  • Divide dough in 4 to make large loaves.
  • Shape, place in greased loaf pan; allow to rise.
  • Bake at 350° for 20 or 30 minutes.
  • While hot, brush with milk and melted butter mixture.
