Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. Crisco shortening
  • 1 c. milk, warmed
  • 8 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 4 sticks oleo

Method

  • Combine flour, cream of tartar and salt; set aside.
  • Mix 3/4 cup sugar and Crisco together, then beat in eggs.
  • Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand until raised with foam on top.
  • Mix together yeast mixture, sugar mixture, milk and vanilla. Add 4 cups flour mixture and mix well.
  • Add 2 cups more flour mixture and mix well. Add remaining flour mixture and mix well again. Turn out onto a floured
  • board and knead for 15 minutes.
  • Put into a large bowl and cover.
  • Set bowl in a warm place until mixture has doubled in size.
  • When double, work down, cover and let sit until double in size again.
