Ingredients
- 3 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 4 Tbsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
- 1 c. milk, warmed
- 8 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 c. warm water
- 4 sticks oleo
Method
- Combine flour, cream of tartar and salt; set aside.
- Mix 3/4 cup sugar and Crisco together, then beat in eggs.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand until raised with foam on top.
- Mix together yeast mixture, sugar mixture, milk and vanilla. Add 4 cups flour mixture and mix well.
- Add 2 cups more flour mixture and mix well. Add remaining flour mixture and mix well again. Turn out onto a floured
- board and knead for 15 minutes.
- Put into a large bowl and cover.
- Set bowl in a warm place until mixture has doubled in size.
- When double, work down, cover and let sit until double in size again.
