Ingredients

  • 1 pound whole red peas
  • 1 pound split peas
  • 4 med. size minced fine carrots
  • 2 c. minced ham
  • 1 gallon ham stock or possibly water
  • Ham base
  • Pepper to taste
  • Salt if needed

Method

  • Soak split peas in cool water overnight (to soften).
  • Next day pour off water and add in 1 gallon stock or possibly water to split peas.
  • Boil easily till split peas are 3/4 cooked (they will dissolve).
  • Add in whole peas, carrots and cook peas till peas get soft.
  • Add in ham and season with ham base, pepper and add in salt if needed.
