Ingredients
- 3 3/4 c. white sugar
- 1 1/4 c. white corn syrup
- 1 c. water
- dash of salt
- food coloring
- flavoring (oils, if possible)
- powdered sugar
Method
- Put first 4 ingredients into a 4-quart saucepan and stir to dissolve sugar.
- Bring to a boil on high.
- Put candy thermometer into mixture, reduce temperature to medium-high and cook until 300° registers on the thermometer.
- Remove from heat; add flavoring and food color.
- Stir to distribute color.* Have prepared a jelly roll type pan (with sides).
- Pour onto powdered sugar that has been sifted over the bottom of pan.
- Allow to cool slightly and, with scissors, cut pieces into a bowl of powdered sugar.
- When cool, remove excess sugar from candy and store.
