Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 c. celery, diced
  • 4 oz. mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 1/4 lb. ground beef
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • dash of basil
  • dash of thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tsp. Italian seasonings
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 (20 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 c. beef stock
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. red wine

Method

  • Saute onions, celery, mushrooms and garlic in oil in large saucepan.
  • Add beef and continue cooking until meat begins to brown.
  • Drain excess fat.
  • Add all other ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring often.
  • Reduce heat and simmer slowly 1 hour. Serve over favorite pasta.
