Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. warm (not hot) water
  • 3 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 8 to 9 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. soft shortening (2 sticks oleo)
  • 2 eggs

Method

  • Soak yeast in warm water for 5 minutes.
  • Pour milk over sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  • Stir until dissolved.
  • Beat in 1 cup flour, shortening, eggs and yeast mixture.
  • Add remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  • When dough leaves sides of bowl, turn out onto a lightly floured board (counter).
  • Knead until dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place in a lightly greased bowl.
  • Grease top of dough.
  • Cover with waxed paper.
