Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted flour (enriched)
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts

Method

  • Cream together shortening and sugars.
  • Add egg and beat well. Sift together dry ingredients.
  • Stir into creamed mix.
  • Add nuts. Shape into rolls about 2 1/2-inches thick (across).
  • Wrap in wax paper and chill thoroughly.
  • Slice very thin, 1/8-inch or less.
