Ingredients

  • 1 medium to large head cabbage, shredded
  • 2 medium onions, sliced and separated
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. mustard seed
  • 1 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 c. vegetable oil

Method

  • Place cabbage and onions in layers in a large bowl.
  • Pour 3/4 cup sugar over this mixture.
  • Bring vinegar, salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, mustard seed and prepared mustard to a boil.
  • Add vegetable oil.
  • Beat mixture well.
  • Spoon over cabbage mixture.
  • Cover and let set in refrigerator for 24 hours before serving.
  • Will keep 2 to 3 weeks.
