Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. corn oil
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar (white granulated)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. butter flavoring
  • 1 1/2 oz. red food color
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Method

  • Cream oil, sugar and eggs; add flavors to make a paste with cocoa and food coloring.
  • Mix well.
  • Alternatively add flour (with salt) and buttermilk.
  • Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl, then add to batter.
  • Blend well.
  • Pour in three 9-inch or 10-inch pans.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°.
  • When toothpick comes clean from cake it's done but don't overcook.
  • Let cool completely.
  • Ice with butter frosting or French vanilla!
