Ingredients
- 2 gal. cucumbers
- 2 c. lime
- 1 c. vinegar
- 1/2 bottle red food coloring
- 1 Tbsp. alum
- 2 c. white vinegar
- 2 c. cold water
- 10 cinnamon sticks
- 10 c. sugar
- 19 oz. red hots candy
Method
- Peel cucumbers 1/2-inch thick.
- Soak 24 hours in lime to 2 gallons water.
- Rinse lime off and soak 2 hours in cold water, then drain.
- Mix 1 cup vinegar, red food coloring and alum.
- Put in enough water to cover pickles and simmer for 1 hour, then drain.
- Mix remaining ingredients.
- Heat to boiling and pour over pickles and let stand overnight.
- Heat for 3 days and on the third day, put into jars and seal.
