Ingredients

  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. water, boiling
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 sq. bitter chocolate
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 recipe of 7 Minute Icing

Method

  • Cream shortening and sugar, add egg yolks, add milk alternatly with flour, salt, baking powder (sifted together).
  • Melt chocolate in double boiler, add baking soda, boiling water (mixture will fizzle up).
  • Let settle and cool slightly.
  • Mix with cake batter. In small bowl beat the egg white until stiff.
  • Fold egg whites into batter.
  • Pour cake into 9-inch cake pans or 13 x 9-inch loaf pan. greased and floured pan).
  • Bake in 350° oven about 35 minutes.
