Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 fluid oz. red cake color
- 1 oz. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
Method
- Mix cocoa, red color, water and vanilla.
- Set aside.
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs and cocoa mix. Blend.
- Next add alternately the buttermilk and flour.
- Last, mix soda and vinegar. Fold into batter lightly.
- Bake in two 9-inch cake pans at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
