Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. margarine
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 8 c. (about 1 3/4 lb.) shredded red cabbage
  • 3 c. unpeeled diced apples
  • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. caraway seed
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. cider vinegar
  • 1/2 c. water

Method

  • Melt margarine in large skillet.
  • Add onion; saute until tender.
  • Stir in cabbage, apple, salt, caraway seed, pepper, brown sugar, vinegar and water.
  • Cover and simmer 50 to 60 minutes, or until cabbage is tender and flavors are well blended.
  • Makes 6 servings.
