Ingredients

  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. nuts, chopped

Method

  • Combine raisins and water in saucepan and bring to a boil for 3 minutes.
  • Let cool (do not drain), cream sugar and shortening together.
  • Add eggs and vanilla; combine dry ingredients.
  • Add to creamed mixture and blend thoroughly.
  • Stir in nuts and raisins. Drop by teaspoonful 2-inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350° for 12 to 14 minutes.
