Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. corn oil
  • 3 Tbsp. margarine, melted

Method

  • Place yeast, water and 1 tablespoon sugar in a large bowl; set aside.
  • Sift together flour, salt and soda.
  • Heat buttermilk on low heat until lukewarm.
  • Combine with yeast mixture.
  • Add remaining sugar and corn oil; mix well.
  • Add flour mixture, 2 cups at a time; blend.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes; knead 5 minutes. Form into rolls; place on greased pans.
  • Brush tops with melted margarine.
  • Let rise 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Yield: 2 to 3 dozen.
