Ingredients

  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 c. hot water
  • 1/2 c. shortening, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Combine all dry ingredients, except soda.
  • Combine soda with hot water; stir into oat mixture along with shortening and vanilla.
  • Roll into balls the size of a walnut.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to stand on cookie sheets for 2 minutes before removing to wire rack.
